Most photographs live on our phones now. We take them, love them for a minute, and a year later can barely remember where they went.
A special piece of my own is a small print I bought while waiting in line for the ‘Wiener Riesenrad’ — a Giant Ferris Wheel on a family trip to Austria in the early 2000s. I framed it with my ticket from the ride. It has followed me from home to home ever since.
I’m sure we took plenty of digital photographs on that trip, but I couldn’t tell you the last time I looked at them. The painting is different. I see it all the time. It has become a small artifact from that trip and from the person I was when I took it.
That was the idea behind this set. We gathered six photographs from our own travels and gave them somewhere to live outside our phones. Send them to someone, frame one, or keep the set together. We hope they follow you around for a while.
